My husband and I enjoy
digging ginseng.
One reason is I like to be outdoors.
You will get a lot of exercise
too.
I have to admit the main reason
is for the money.
I am originally from
Pittsburgh, PA.
So you will have to imagine
I have never heard of Ginseng before.
Shortly after meeting my husband,
he took me with him digging.
I did not believe him that we could
make $500.00
for walking around in the woods
looking for a plant.
My first season I was hooked!!!!
Especially after counting the money!
There are
numerous links on Ginseng.
It is hard to find someone to show
you how to hunt for it.
Your Ginseng woods are a secret
place.
You can find many books at your
local library.
That will show you what the plant
looks like.
I will give you a few tips,
after that I am sworn to
secrecy.
If you
find mushrooms in a woods
you will usually find "seng" too.
It likes to grow around Elm and
Cherry trees.
One rule
when "seng" hunting.
Please, please do not dig up small
plants.
You will here plants referred to
in
"prongs"(e.g. two pronger, three
pronger ect.)
The two pronger should be off
limits.
You should just pluck off the top
of the plant and bury it in the
ground.
This is to ensure that no one else
will pick it.
Also a strategy tactic, other people
who might wander into your secret
woods
will not find any, and therefore
won't come back.
The main reason is you want it
to grow to be a mature plant.
It will be worth more money to
you.
If you dig all the "seng" you find
in a woods pretty
soon it will be a dry woods.
It takes about seven years
for a Ginseng plant to reach maturity.
There are rules and regulations for digging Ginseng.
Make sure you check your States
hunting laws.
There is a season which you can
dig.
In Ohio it usually starts the end
of
August or the first week on September.
I
did manage to find a JPG, it is just the root.
I hope this has helped you.
If you have a question I would
be glad to answer it.
Thanks for visiting. Happy
Digging:-)
